Binz

Binz is the largest seaside resort on the German island of Rügen. Binz is a town that evokes a sense of the past amidst modern facilities. The town is adorned with ornate Victorian buildings, the stately Granitz hunting lodge with its excellent towers and viewpoint, and to the north, the eerie ruins of Prora, a huge Nazi ‘resort’. Soft sandy beaches and the graceful seaside promenade offer idyllic views and sunbathing.

The famous architect Ulrich Müther (1934 – 2007) was born in Binz and created the UFO-like Müther Tower in the Binz dunes. Nature lovers will enjoy exploring the Jasmund National Park’s ancient beech forests, full of century-old trees, and its magnificent chalk cliffs, home to the famous ‘King’s Chair’ – a spectacular, giant outcrop rising to 118 metres. The park is home to several rare and beautiful plant species, such as colourful orchids and the European crab apple, and numerous birds, including the white-tailed eagle.
