Westfjords

Iceland’s Westfjords or West Fjords is situated in the north-west of the island. It is a large peninsula in the Denmark Strait, facing the east coast of Greenland. In the south, visitors can discover the beautiful Rauðasandur beach, featuring endless golden sands; take a warming soak in the local hot springs of Krossholt near Brjánslækir and visit Látrabjarg – Europe’s westernmost point.

Other highlights include: Dynjandi; the largest waterfall in the Westfjords and one of the most photogenic falls in Iceland; as well as Thingeyri village, home to a replica Viking ship and village. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the north of the peninsula characterised by high, steep mountains – excellent for winter skiing and great summer views, soak up epic views from Bolafjall; and in the east, don’t miss a visit to the witchcraft museum in Hólmavík.
