Pori

Pori, the tenth-largest city in Finland, is located on the country’s west coast, near the Kokemaki River. The town’s primary attraction, arguably, is its famous architectural landmark, Alvar Aalto’s Villa Mairea, which is considered a 20th-century masterpiece. The building also functions as a museum of modern art. Pori also boasts numerous chic sports clubs, beautiful sandy beaches, and phenomenal jazz and cultural festivals. Sun-worshippers will love the golden shores at Yyterin Hiekkasärkät, the photogenic lighthouse at Kallo; and Kirjurinluoto, a lovely island featuring an enthralling garden, outdoor theatre, and golf course. Make sure to take a slow boat trip along the river for some fantastic views, and spend an evening in artsy, atmospheric Viikkari (the 5th district), filled with historic wooden buildings.
