Borgarfjorour

Located roughly 70 kilometres from Egilsstaoir in western Iceland, Borgarfjorour takes its name from the spectacular mass of water. The town is famous for being home to Europe's largest hot spring and the magnificent falls, Hraunfossar. Scattered with gorgeous coves, and surrounded by majestic mountain peaks and uninhabited islands, this is the ultimate Icelandic wonderland. It is also one of the clearest representatives of the country, owing to being the setting for numerous famous legends passed down through generations. The Alfaborg or Elves Castle is the home of the Queen of the Elves, where she keeps her court. There is a long list of hiking trails of various lengths, and an incredible diversity of birdlife to see (make sure to visit the special hide at the harbour to see puffins, kittiwakes and other species).
